Supporting the Itereleng Informal Settlement: Bringing Hope Through Service

The Itereleng Informal Settlement, situated adjacent to Laudium in Pretoria, is among the most economically disadvantaged communities in South Africa. With an estimated 90% unemployment rate, many families face the daily realities of poverty, food insecurity, and limited access to essential services. For countless residents, every day is a struggle to provide even the most basic necessities for their families.

Recognising these pressing needs, the Institute for Islamic Services (IIS) has made Itereleng one of its key humanitarian outreach areas. Through its daily feeding scheme, the Institute provides nutritious meals to vulnerable individuals and families, helping to combat hunger while offering hope and dignity to those facing severe hardship.

Beyond meeting immediate physical needs, IIS is committed to investing in the future of the community through education. The Institute operates Madressahs where children receive a sound Islamic education and moral guidance, while its Daycare Centres provide a safe and nurturing environment that supports the development and well-being of young children.

The Institute believes that sustainable community upliftment requires both compassionate relief and long-term investment in education. By feeding the hungry, educating children, and supporting families, IIS seeks to empower communities and create opportunities for a brighter future.
